Melinda Banister

For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for history and all things “old.” As a young child, I recall asking my parents and other family members to tell me stories about when they were young and probing them for any facts they had regarding our family and its rich history. This passion continued into my teen and adult years.

When I graduated from high school, I had the opportunity of spending nearly two months traveling through Europe, visiting dozens of landmarks and museums, and taking in as much information about each of the places I visited as I could. Keeping a daily journal of my findings and observations have made for interesting reading and laughs 25 years later. My interest in the past became even more apparent when I was in my mid-20s when I decided to make it my mission to trace my family history. My investigation began with my dad’s side of the family and quickly escalated to other parts of my lineage. After almost 20 years of research, I can say that I have successfully completed what I set out to do.

Using my love of information and fact-finding to make clients happy by completing their requests with accuracy and efficiency is what makes my job rewarding and why I enjoy doing what I do. Many clients have known me for a long time and I have enjoyed watching their families grow and then working with their children.

As a Sacramento native, I take great pride in the city I have called home for the past four decades and enjoy spending time with my family and friends at any number of local establishments. At least two times a year, I embark on a road trip with my husband and daughter, who, like me, both have a love for history and the past. Recent trips have been to Canada and New Mexico.

Depending on the time of year, I can usually be found poolside at my daughter’s swim meet, running a Girl Scout meeting for her troop, or perusing estate sales. Other interests include yoga, succulent gardening, and anything coffee related.
